The International Team Challenge is a 4 person DBM team tournament in which each team member play an army from one of the 4 DBM army books. The ITC is held each year in Ghent, Belgium in early September. It had been held in Grandson Switzerland but was moved in 2004.
The USA sent their first team over in 2004, and was able to field another in 2005. These were ad hoc teams put togther from those who wished to go and had the resources to attend. Because of growing USA interest in the ITC a more formal procedure for selecting teams was deemed necessary. Since the Ghent Organizers prefer to work with national gaming bodies wherever possible, and NASAMW is the only national level organization in North America, NASAMW became the de facto organization for selecting such a team.
The US Team Tournament, currently held in the Atlanta area in January/Februaryhas become more established and popular. Since this event parallels in many respects the Ghent event it was decided to use it as a means of selecting the representatives starting in 2006 under the oversight of the NASAMW Chief Umpire. Unless the Executive Committee of NASAMW over-rides the Chief Umpire's decision this is how future American ITC teams to Ghent will be selected:
1. NASMAW will first offer invitation to represent the USA at Ghent to the team that wins the US Team tournament shortly after the results of that event are published..
2. In the event that some/all of that team cannot commit then the NASAMW Chief Umpire will work thru the 2nd and 3rd place teams from highest to lowest scoring to fill the remaining spots.
3. If after going thru the top 3 teams (12 players) the 4 spots are not taken then the NASAMW Chief Umpire will offer invitations to other players that have voiced an interest in going. The order of those additional invitations will be at the sole discretion of the NASAMW Chief Umpire including the option of selecting the NASAMW Chief Umpire as a possible Team member.
Possible team members must confirm acceptance to the Chief Umpire at least one month before the list of player names are due.Contact the NASAMW Chief Umpire Jim Hauber (jshauber@yahoo.com) with any questions/comments or to get your name on the list of possible players, but only after the US Team Tournament takes place.
Information on the US Team Tournament can be found on the NASAMW tournament announcement page, usually by November of each year.
Information on the ITC itself can be found on the ITC Site
