- Gulf Coast DBM Championship Guidelines & Results
Guidelines:
1. Tournaments. The GCC is divided into three categories of tournaments; Major, Large and Small. The following guidelines apply to each type of tournament:
A. Major Tournaments. To be considered a major tournament, a tournament must have a minimum of four (4) rounds and have a minimum of 24 players. Points will be awarded for first through fifteenth place (15 for 1st, 14 for 2nd, etc.).
B. Large Tournaments. To be considered a large tournament, a tournament must have a minimum of four (4) rounds and have a minimum of 16 players. Points will be awarded for first through tenth place (10 for 1st, 9 for 2nd, etc.).
C. Small Tournaments. To be considered a small tournament, a tournament must have a minimum of three (3) rounds and have a minimum of 8 players. Points will be awarded for first through fifth place (5 for 1st, 4 for 2nd, etc.).
D. Bayou Wars. No matter what tournament size category Bayou Wars falls into, an extra 5 points will be awarded for this tournament; for example, if it falls into the Major tournament category, then 1st place will be worth 20 points and 1 point for 20th place.
E. If a tournament does not have at least 8 players and a non-competing referee, the event will not be considered in the Gulf Coast DBM Championship.
F. Any tournament with only three rounds shall be considered a Small tournament, assuming the minimum number of players is met.
G. All tournaments must adhere to these guidelines.
2. Doubles tournaments. Doubles tournaments will not be considered as part of the GCC.
3. Army Size. GCC tournaments army sizes shall be a minimum of 300 points and no more than 500 points.
4. Referee. Each tournament must provide at least one non-competing referee. The referee may play to avoid byes but his score cannot be counted nor may he be counted as one of the required minimum number of players.
5. Commands. Each tournament must ensure that players' commands are designated in some way to distinguish them from each other. This could be by the use of colored dots, painted marks on stands or by some other method the tournament organizer chooses.
6. Interpretations. All tournaments must adhere to the IWF interpretations for rulings. The IWF Guidelines for fairplay, including a 12 bound minimum for each game, are recommended.
7. Pairings. Tournaments should strive to pair out of town players with locals for the first round while subsequent rounds should be based on winners vs. winners or players with the same or similar point totals playing each other. Tournaments with more than 20 players are encouraged to schedule 5 rounds or to employ some method of seeding to promote a stable final result.
8. Tie-breakers. No matter what scoring system a tournament uses, the GCC recommends that count back of opponents' scores be used to break ties in placing and pairings.
9. Announcements. Any tournament wishing to be added to the GCC (after the initial listing of tournaments for the year) must be announced a minimum of 30 days prior to the event. Specific tournament details (i.e. date, location, game times, lodging arrangements, points, number of rounds, etc.) must be sent to the GCC Coordinator for disbursement to known GCC participants and the DBM List.
10. Tournament Results. Tournament results shall be forwarded to the GCC Coordinator for inclusion in the Gulf Coast Championship totals as soon as possible showing the ranking of players from 1st to last and armies used.
11. GCC Scoring. A player's total toward the GCC championship will consist of his five (5) best scores.
12. GCC Circuit. The Gulf Coast Championship currently consists of tournaments in the following states: Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, Texas and Oklahoma. Any additional states wishing to be added to the GCC must be approved by a simple majority of the GCC Committee as voted on at the annual GCC meeting.
13. GCC Committee. Each tournament participating in the GCC shall be able to designate one representative to the GCC Committee. The GCC Committee shall plan each GCC tournament year and determine any changes to these guidelines. The standing GCC annual meeting shall be held at Bayou Wars. Additional at-large members shall include a representative from HMGS Gulf South and the GCC Coordinator. Each participating tournament shall contribute $5 (small tournament) or $10 (large or major tournament) toward a trophy for the GCC Champion.

Current Standings for 2007-2008 as of 12/31/07
Two more tournaments are in the books for 2008 and the GCC standings are ready. We have had 26 competitors so far in 4 tournaments.
Ricky Jones continues to pace the field with 2nd at Millennium in Austin and 3rd at the Holiday Tourney in New Orleans. He has nearly doubled the points of Joey Miller in second place. Way to go SMAC.
Congratulations also to Rich Olier for the win at Austin and to Mike McGee for the New Orleans victory.
Next tournament will be the US Team Tournament in Birmingham on 19/20 January. Though it will not count toward the GCC, all are encouraged to field a team and make it. This is the US Team selection tournament for the International Team Championship in Lisbon next fall and we want to field the Gulf South’s finest to keep those pesky Yankees out of the top place .
Not sure when the next GCC tourney will be. February is open. We traditionally have Brewer-Sailors in March or April in Birmingham. All you tournament organizers please get your plans into me so that they can be included in the GCC schedule.
