The Traveler's Cup (TC) is a DBM tournament circuit with the primary mission to provide recognition to those individuals that travel between the three NASAMW Regions in the Mid-West throughout the course of the year as ambassadors of good gaming. Its secondary mission is to increase participation and cooperation within and between the Regions' DBM communities as well as increase the membership base of HMGS and NASAMW. To those ends, the TC will track the scores of those members that participate within the circuit's events with the high score receiving the coveted Road Warrior trophy at the end of the circuit year.
Entry Requirements
Players may join the circuit at any time during its run, but the Road Warrior will be crowned based on average scores accumulated between GenCon (August) to Origins (June). The entry fee will be $15.00. If either a HMGS or NASAMW member the fee is $10.00. If both a HMGS and NASAMW member the fee is $5.00 per year. Members must register with the Circuits commissioner and pay the registration fee prior to a players scores being counted for that seasons circuit. Meaning, no waiting to see how well you do in a particular event before committing to participation. You will not receive credit for events held before the entry fee is received. The entry fee will 100% fund the prize pool which will be split 50% for the 1st place finisher; 25% going to the player that increases membership in HMGS and NASAMW the most; 25% going to the player that has traveled the furthest throughout the course of the year (measured by distance from house to event on YahooMaps). Any time a TC member enrolls an individual in either gaming society, they must notify the commissioner with that persons name and date of enrollment.
Participation Requirements
A player has a Region of Record (RoR) based on NASAMW administration: Region #5 - ChicagoLand, Region #6 - MAC, Region #7 - Ohio Valley and the TC's events are divided between the three Regions (see calendar below). Each event is labeled with the Region's initials, i.e. MAC = Mid American Championship Series; OV = Ohio Valley Hoplites; CL = ChicagoLand. It is the parent organization that determines all aspects of the actual tournaments. The TC is only a running tally as to how well those individuals who choose to participate in the TC do at these events.A players average score from five (5) of the circuits events will be used to determine their final standings based on the 15 - 0 system. These, of course, will be the best five results a player achieves. A player must participate in a minimum of four (4) events to qualify. Ties will be settled by head-to-head record first, with a split prize awarded should they remain tied.
A player may only count a maximum of two events from their RoR in their final scoring. This is the Travelers Cup after all and means a player will have to go to at least two events outside of their RoR. Should a player make it to a tournament in all three Regions during the circuits run, they will receive a bonus of 15 points added to their point pool. Should a player outside the three listed RoR's participate, they would have to attend events in two of the three regions listed to qualify and would be bound by having no more than two events from the same RoR in their final tally.
Events
This is a working list based on events held and planned in 2005 - 2006. It is subject to change but all events considered for the TC must be held in the three Mid-West Regions. It doesn't matter if an event has 15mm and 25mm gaming. It is the player's score at the event they play in that will be used when determining their final standings. Event organizers wishing to include their DBM event in the circuit beyond those listed below must contact the commissioner (madcam1@peoplepc.com) at least one month prior to the events date. Inclusion of events is at the discretion solely of the commissioner and written acknowledgment must be retained and results forwarded in a timely manner.Dates and other information about the following events can be found on the Announcements page.
2005
August MAC's GenCon: 4 rounds in 2004, which may or may not be expanded in 2005. HMGS members get discounted attendance and space is not an issue. There is plenty of gaming outside of DBM for those that want to make it an extended weekend. If in the future, GenCon is not as DBM friendly to our members, it will be moved to the Day's Inn location of the B-Day bash.September OV's ATC: 3 round DBM event located in Springfield Ohio at a hotel to ease travelers. HMGS members get discounted attendance. Like the rest of the OV's events listed, there is plenty of non-DBM gaming to fill the weekend. As an aside, Rich Hartley and I are hosting a Flames of War training day on Sunday as there appears to be growing interest within Rich's territory. Break out that WWII lead!
October CL's ChicagoLand Open: 3 round DBM event.
December MAC's MAC Championship: 5 rounds at the Day's Inn to determine the MAC/Region #6's Champion and NICT invitee. HMGS and NASAMW members receive discounted attendance. Plenty of gaming space at the Day's Inn location of the B-Day bash. We received discounted hotel rooms at the event site.
2006
January CL's The Dustin Hnath Memorial / Silver Axe: 3 round DBM eventFebruary MAC's B-Day Bash: Located in Kettering, OH; it is a 4 round tournament.
March CL's Little Wars: IIRC this is a HMGS convention that CL has been running a one-day 3 round tournament. Members that choose to join HMGS would get a discounted Convention pass (at least we do in HMGS-GLs) and there would be a hotel with possible room discounts available.
May OV's CapCon: 3 round DBM event.
June/July OV's Origins: 3 round DBM event on Saturday, 200 point mini on Friday. Like CapCon, there is plenty of other gaming to be had that makes this an automatic MUST IMO. Both HMGS and NASAMW get discounted attendance and space is not an issue.

After one-third the way through the 2005-06 Travelers Cup we may be witnessing a changing of the guard. Can the mighty play of one Chuck Hines continue to shock and awe his opponents and as he climbs ever closer to the lofty heights of a target? Can anyone stop the Mike Hart express? Will Jim Hauber ever find a set of dice that actually work? Inquiring minds want to know!
Standings after GenCon, the Chicagoland Open, and Advance the Colors are as follows:
Player/rounds/total points/average points
Mike Hart / 9 / 96 / 10.67

We expect great things from this years squad of Mike Hart, Rich Novak, Mike Pfanenstiel and Scott Jeske.
